The statement from the Martinsville School District: “Thank you to the Martinsville High School leadership team, staff and coaches, MSD of Martinsville Police, City of Martinsville Police, Morgan County Emergency Management, Martinsville Fire Department, Morgan County 911 Center, and Martinsville High School student-athletes for their quick and appropriate response to this incident. The professionalism, preparedness, and immediate action of all individuals involved are appreciated.

“The District staff and students’ thoughts and support remain with the student-athlete and their family, and the continued backing from the Martinsville community is appreciated. After communication with the family on August 8, 2026, it was shared that the student-athlete is home resting comfortably.”

Martinsville coach Brian Dugger said the player is at home and “doing well.”

“Scary moment but handled well by first class people,” Dugger said.

Martinsville has a scrimmage at Greenwood on Friday, then will open Week 1 on Aug. 21 at Bedford North Lawrence.
