City to host public hearing for proposed short-term rental ordinances

SOUTH BEND — The city of South Bend is hosting a presentation and public hearing on proposed short-term rental ordinances on the third floor of the County-City Building Aug. 10 at 5 p.m.

South Bend has recently been listed as one of the best places in the country to invest in short-term rentals (STRs) through platforms such as Airbnb, VRBO, and others, according to a press release sent to local media by the city.

The city-proposed ordnances, set to be considered by the South Bend Common Council on Aug. 24, would establish a short-term rental permitting process and require council approval for non-owner-occupied short-term rentals.

The hearing will be held before the Common Council’s Community Investment and Zoning & Annexation Committees to provide an opportunity for residents to learn about the proposed ordinances and offer public comment.

Public input can also be submitted directly to respective Councilmembers or to City Zoning Dept at zoning@southbendin.gov.
