Colts insider with surprise addition in 53-man roster prediction

With training camp near, ESPN’s Stephen Holder put together his pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction for the Indianapolis Colts, and included was a surprise addition.

At the offensive line position, Holder had the Colts going heavy, and rostering 10 players. That final player on the depth chart was offensive tackle Bayron Matos.

Could Bayron Matos make a roster push with the Colts?

The Colts signed Matos to the practice squad in October of last season. He originally went undrafted in 2024 out of South Florida and signed with the Miami Dolphins.

Matos was on their practice squad for the 2024 season as part of the International Pathway Program (IPP). He then spent the 2025 offseason and training camp with Miami before being waived in early September.

According to the Colts’ team site, Matos is not designated as an IPP player.

Matos is still a relatively inexperienced player. He played college basketball before walking on at South Florida in 2022. According to PFF, he played 11 snaps that year as a defensive lineman. Development is still likely needed.

As the third tackle option off the bench in Holder’s prediction, Matos may often end up inactive on game days if this scenario were to play out. By choosing to roster him, one would guess that the Colts would be unsure of Matos making it back to the practice squad without another team potentially swooping in to claim him following roster cutdowns.
