Street to be closed for weeks to address stormwater overflow in Peoria

A portion of Blaine Street in South Peoria will be closed for four weeks beginning Thursday, June 25 as part of the city’s continued efforts to contain stormwater flow.

South Blaine Street will be closed mid-block between West Antoinette and West Garden streets beginning at 7 a.m. June 25 as part of the city’s Combined Sewer Overflow Year 4 Control Project, which allows for the city to install subsurface infiltration underneath the pavement of a roadway to help control stormwater and combined sewer overflow water.

In this case, pavement is being removed to help with the installation, according to the Peoria Department of Public Works.

The city recommends that people driving through the area consider an alternative route, with through traffic along Blaine Street being asked to use South Western Avenue for the time being.

Drivers are asked to use caution when driving through the area and be mindful of Blaine’s closure.
