Here's how Springfield compares to other famously cold places

SPRINGFIELD – It’s currently -3 degrees in Springfield, with a windchill at -23.

Where in the world is it warmer? Here are a few places.

Snag, Yukon Territory, Canada

Snag, a village in the Yukon Territory, holds the coldest temperature in North America at -81.4, recorded in 1947, but today, the village is feeling a balmier -9.

To be fair, this is a bit colder than Springfield, but it’s close enough to mention.

Nuuk, Greenland

The capital of Greenland, Nuuk, is a fairly cold place.

This morning, the city of around 20,000 people is 29 degrees.

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

Known as the world’s coldest capital city, this place in Mongolia is admittedly colder today than Springfield, but still worth a comparison.

It’s currently -14 in Ulaanbaatar.

Oslo, Norway

Tucked against the Norwegian Sea, this capital city of around 1.5 million people living in the area is currently 22 degrees.

Around Oslo, snowfall is common and the average winter temperatures are just below zero. according to Visit Norway.

Utqiagvik, Alaska

Formerly known as Barrow, Utqiagvik is the northernmost U.S. city, where around 4,000 people live.

Utqiagvik currently sits at 28 degrees.
