SPRINGFIELD, IL – Christina Shutt, the longest-tenured executive director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM), announced July 15 that she will be stepping down at the end of 2026, the end of her five-year term.
Shutt, who came to the ALPLM from the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, was the first person of color to hold the top position at the ALPLM.
“I am immensely proud of all that we have accomplished together at the ALPLM over the last five years,” Christina Shutt said in a news release. “Alongside our dedicated volunteers and community, we have achieved the goals I set upon coming to Springfield to strengthen the organization through meaningful growth and innovation in order to position the ALPLM for future success.”
The ALPLM’s Board of Trustees, in consultation with Gov. JB Pritzker, will select a new executive director. It will be subject to confirmation by the Illinois State Senate.
Shutt succeed Alan Lowe, who was fired in September 2019 after loaning out ALPLM’s original copy of the Gettysburg Address to Glenn Beck’s non-profit group, Mercury One. Then ALPLM Chief of Staff Melissa Coultas served in an interim basis.
