Two people were killed early Saturday in a wrong-way, head-on crash on Interstate 10 in Madison County, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.
The crash occurred at about 1:10 a.m. June 6 near mile marker 245 on eastbound I-10.
Investigators say a sport utility vehicle driven by a 34-year-old woman from Orange Park was traveling west in the inside eastbound lane when it collided head-on with another sport utility vehicle.
The second vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old Jacksonville man, was traveling east in the inside eastbound lane at the time of the crash.
The front of both vehicles collided, and each rotated clockwise before coming to rest, according to the report.
Both drivers, who were the sole occupants of their vehicles, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was wearing a seat belt, while the man was not, the report states.
The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Madison County EMS, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office and Madison County Fire Rescue.
