Sixth graders at Surfside Middle School in Panama City Beach stepped back in time on April 7 to learn what life was like during the pioneer days.

Students explored horse travel, cooking, frontier fashion, and even music and dancing from the era.
Steve Grice, Surfside Middle School’s history teacher, made it unforgettable by bringing two horses to campus.
“(Surfside) believes that learning is something that needs to be experienced, not just read about in text books,” Grice explained about the lesson plan.
But the fun didn’t stop there. Students also enjoyed homemade frontier beans and biscuits baked over an open fire, giving them a true taste of history.
