The Florida Department of Transportation will implement temporary detours at the Interstate 4 and State Road 33 interchange in Lakeland as construction continues on new bridges, ramps and roadway improvements.
Northbound SR 33 will be closed at I‑4 during nighttime hours on April 20 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., with motorists detoured via University Boulevard and truck traffic routed onto I‑4 eastbound to State Road 559, FDOT said in a news release. The I‑4 eastbound Exit 38 off‑ramp to SR 33 will also close during this operation, with drivers directed to use Exit 33 instead.
The I‑4 eastbound on‑ramp from SR 33 (Ramp C) will close on April 20 from at 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., requiring southbound SR 33 traffic to follow a local detour and northbound SR 33 traffic to use SR 559 to access I‑4 eastbound. Warning signs and portable changeable message signs will be placed two weeks prior to each closure, and additional detour signage, barricades and traffic control devices will guide motorists through the area.
