Sports gambling education will be mandatory for all conference student-athletes, the SEC announced earlier this week. All participants must complete the program prior to their first regular-season game during the 2026-27 academic year.
Included in the initiative are custom educational videos tailored to highlight the risks of gambling, the NCAA’s policies, integrity concerns, and reporting procedures. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey cited sports gambling’s rapid growth in conjunction with the rise of prediction markets as a catalyst for the initiative.
The program was born through the SEC’s integrity efforts, which include real-time monitoring of bets, athlete availability reports, and anti-gambling locker room posters. Players will also have access to an anonymous tip line.
