The Miami Hurricanes picked up a win to open their 2026 NCAA baseball tournament. Now they have a chance to move directly into the Gainesville Regional final tonight when they take on host and rival Florida.
Miami beat Troy 10-5 on May 29 to move into the winners bracket. After a 4-hour, 15-minute weather delay to even begin, the Hurricanes got three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs from Derek Williams. Lyndon Glidewell pitched the eighth and ninth innings to get the win, in which Miami blew open a 5-5 tie with five runs in the eighth.
The Canes now get another crack at the Gators, who won a thriller against Rider in their opener. Florida took both games of a rain-shortened series in late February at Mark Light Field, pouncing on the volatile Miami bullpen for a five-run inning that broke a tie and led to a 7-2 win before outlasting Rob Evans in an 8-4 victory the next day. Florida could start SEC pitcher of the year Aidan King, who ranks 35th in the nation with a 2.68 ERA but lasted just 2⅓ innings because of cramps in his Feb. 28 start at Miami.

A win today puts Miami on the shortest path on the road to the College World Series. The Hurricanes would await the winner of the elimination bracket Sunday night, May 31 with two chances at punching their ticket to the super regionals. Losing today means they’ll have to win two games Sunday to force a winner-take-all game Monday, June 1 against Florida/Rider.
