No. 10 FSU softball stays hot with run-rule win over Cal

No. 10 Florida State extended its nation‑leading win streak to 16 games Saturday, rolling past Cal 9–0 in a five‑inning run‑rule victory that lasted just 81 minutes.

The Seminoles (27-4, 5-0 ACC) jumped on the Bears (10-21, 1-7 ACC) early with a seven‑run first inning, highlighted by Isa Torres stretching her NCAA-record hitting streak to 16 straight at‑bats with a leadoff and an RBI single later in the inning. Her historic hitting streak eventually came to an end, finishing the day with 2 of 3.

Jaysoni Beachum walked, and Shelby McKenzie continued her hot stretch with an RBI single up the middle to bring home Torres for a 1–0 lead. Ashtyn Danley followed with a sacrifice fly to score Beachum and make it 2–0.

Kennedy Harp’s walk and a single from Bella Ruggiero set up Makenna Sturgis, who doubled to center to score two more. Ruggiero later crossed on a wild pitch for a 5–0 lead. Hayley Griggs added an RBI single.

FSU added a run in the second on a Ruggiero single that drove in Danley, and Danley notched her second RBI in the fourth with a run‑scoring double to bring home Madi Frey.

Bella Dimitrijevic delivered three scoreless innings in the circle, allowing two hits and striking out four. Senior left‑hander Makenna Reid closed out the final two innings, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.

Florida State will go for the sweep against Cal on Sunday at noon.
