Almost a dozen vehicles were involved in chain-reaction crashes on Interstate 10 in Leon County May 20, snarling traffic as the Florida Highway Patrol worked to clear the rush hour wrecks.
The crashes, including one rollover, occurred mostly between mile markers 199 and 201 eastbound, according to FHP spokesperson Corporal PJ Shaw. She said seven cars were involved, but only minor injuries were reported and no one had been transported to the hospital as of 6:45 p.m.
Four cars were separately involved in crashes in the westbound lanes, Shaw said, adding that there were other reported crashes behind them that Troopers hadn’t made it too yet.
The accidents came as the skies opened and brought a burst of rain to a city in the grips of an exceptional drought.
Shaw said there were no reports of widespread closures as of 6:25 p.m., but traffic appeared particularly congested on the interstate westbound from Thomasville Road to North Monroe Street. By 7:30 p.m. traffic appeared to be flowing.
