FSU softball vs. Florida: Seminoles take down the Gators

The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles beat the  No. 7 Florida Gators 3-1 at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee, Florida, picking up a comeback win. The Seminoles improved to 40-7 with the win, which was their final home game of the regular season.

Florida took a 1-0 lead on the first batter of the game when Taylor Shumaker hit a leadoff homer against Jazzy Francik. The lead did not last long as FSU’s Isa Torres hit a leadoff homer of her own in the bottom of the inning to tie the game.

Torres did it again in the third inning, giving FSU a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish. They got some breathing room in the fourth when Shelby McKenzie singled home Kennedy Harp.

Francik pitched the first three innings of the game before Ashtyn Danley pitched the final four to earn the win. She limited Florida to two hits and two strikeouts. She is now 9-1 on the season with a 2.42 ERA.

FSU has now won eight of the last nine games against its in-state rival. Florida still leads the series 29-25, but FSU will go for the series sweep next week in Gainesville.

FSU beat Florida 3-1 on Wednesday, picking up one of their most important wins of the season in their final home game of the regular season.

Hayley Griggs hit a one-out double, but the top of FSU’s lineup was unable to take advantage and add another insurance run. They are 1-6 with runners in scoring position.

For the first time in this game, FSU was able to retire Florida in order in the sixth inning. Jaysoni Beachum made a great play on a line drive to take a base hit away from Florida.

End 5th: FSU leads Florida 3-1

FSU got a one-out single from Bella Ruggiero in the fifth, but that was all. FSU is hitting .250 with runners on and in scoring position.

The Seminoles turned their second double-play of the game and 27th of the season to end the fifth inning and preserve the 3-1 lead.

The Seminoles loaded the bases with two outs for Ashtyn Danley, who was unable to take advantage and flew out to left to end the inning. FSU leads 3-1 after four innings, but has left six runners stranded.

Isa Torres has given FSU the lead with a pair of solo home runs. It is her second multi-home run game of the season. Anna Hinde was stranded after Bella Ruggiero grounded out to end the inning.
