Former Big Ten starting shortstop commits to FSU

The FSU baseball team has landed a shortstop transfer. Former Indiana Hoosier Cooper Malamazian committed to the Seminoles on Monday, announcing the news on Instagram.

Malamazian was a two-year starter at Indiana and has played in 106 games over the past two years, making 97 starts. He is a career .310 hitter with eight home runs, 27 doubles, 76 RBI, and a .391 on-base percentage.

He is originally from Clarendon Hills, Illinois, and will have three seasons of eligibility after the NCAA’s new rules. Malamazian is a right-handed hitter and has made 22 errors in his career, recording a .932 fielding percentage. He will have a great shot to start for the Seminoles with Gabe Fraser entering the portal after one season in Tallahassee.

Malamazian had an excellent freshman season in 2024 and made the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and was a Perfect Game Second Team Freshman All-American. He hit .320 with four home runs, 17 doubles, two triples, and 40 RBI. He had a .512 slugging percentage and a .394 on-base percentage.

His numbers regressed slightly in 2026, with him hitting .301 with 10 doubles, 36 RBI, and a .444 slugging percentage. He did cut his strikeouts and increase his walks.

Malamazian is the fourth transfer that FSU has added this offseason and the second position player only, joining outfielder Ty Peeples. They have also landed two-way player Jackson McKenzie and starting pitcher Cayden Suchy.
