Guardians score vs. Rangers; Cameron Cauley 1st MLB hit keys Texas win

CLEVELAND — Cameron Cauley won’t ever forget his first major league hit.

The Texas Rangers second baseman laced a ball down the right-field line and flew into third on a hustle triple when Kahlil Watson slipped in the seventh. He came around to score the game-winning run on single by Nicky Lopez and the Texas beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-3 on June 29.

Lopez scored later in the inning and Texas (43-42) opened their three-game set the right way against the Guardians (44-41). Jordan Foscue led the way for the Rangers. He went 2-for-5 with two RBIs with two doubles.

The Guardians took a brief lead in the fifth when Gabriel Arias sent the first pitch of the frame 429 feet to tie it up. Just a few batters later, a double by Chase DeLauter made it 2-1. The Rangers tied it up on an RBI single by Jake Burger a half inning later. Parker Messick (7-5, 2.85) went 6⅔ innings of eight-hit ball. He gave up four runs, all earned and struck out five.
