Open for less than a year, Palma House seems to be Daytona Beach Shores’ newest best kept secret. The self-described “all-in-one restaurant, coffee café, and bar,” serves a diverse menu of Italian, Mediterranean and classic American dishes, including seafood, vegetarian and vegan options.
Just a few doors down from Zugba Café, the restaurant offers takeout and indoor dining — a casual space for baklava, a glass of wine or a Benedict breakfast.
Alongside a full roster of lunch and dinner dishes — from crusted cod to Greek salads, gyros and margarita pizza — the star of Palma House’s menu is its authentic Georgian items.
Located between Eastern Europe and Western Asia, the country of Georgia is known for hearty comfort foods and bold flavors from fresh herbs and various spices.
Try the khachapuri — arguably Georgia’s most popular dish. The boat-shaped, blistered-crust cheese bread is served warm from the oven and filled with melted mozzarella, feta and an egg topping.
Other options include the kubdari — a Georgian meat pie filled with ground beef and pork — and my pick, the lobiani — Georgian stuffed bread loaded with warm beans, melted butter and pepperoncini.
From the oven-baked mushroom skillet to slow-simmered traditional bean stew, Palma House’s menu introduces flavors and specialties that remain largely unfamiliar across the area. What’s more, from 6 – 9 p.m. on Thursdays, guests can enjoy dinner and show during the restaurant’s weekly karaoke night.
Palma House is located at 3100 S. Atlantic Ave. in Daytona Beach Shores and is open 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Friday – Sunday. For information, call 386-256-3378 or visit palmahouserestaurant.com.
