Ex-FSU slugger, Jaysoni Beachum, Tallahassee native, commits to Texas Tech

Former Florida State standout Jaysoni Beachum is heading to the Southwest, announcing she will play her senior year at Texas Tech on Thursday after entering the transfer portal earlier this month.

Beachum’s decision comes over a week after the Tallahassee native surprised the Seminoles’ softball program by declaring her intent to transfer following three productive seasons at FSU.

One of the top players available in the portal, Beachum, drew significant interest during her recruitment process. She visited schools like Oklahoma State, and a few SEC schools such as Florida, Georgia and Tennessee before ultimately choosing the Red Raiders, a team coming off of losing to Texas in the Women’s College World Series.

A third baseman who typically batted second, Beachum led Florida State this past season with 69 RBIs and 69 hits while posting a .406 batting average and 10 home runs. She is a two-time All-ACC selection and a former freshman All-American.

Over the course of her career, the Florida High graduate compiled 37 home runs and 180 RBIs, establishing herself as one of the program’s most consistent offensive threats.

Beachum’s departure, along with that of teammate Torres, marks a significant loss for the Seminoles. Florida State has since turned to the transfer portal for reinforcements, adding Nicole Edmiaston from Stetson.

With a proven track record at the plate and in high-level competition, Beachum’s move to Lubbock not only strengthens the Red Raiders’ batting lineup but also allows her to experience competing in the Women’s College World Series next year, which she has not experienced in her career, and more than likely run into her former teammate and now Texas Longhorn, Isa Torres.
