Coke Zero Sugar 400 rain update: What's latest forecast for NASCAR race at Daytona?

Now, we just have to see if the rain holds off.

Bad weather interrupted multiple times Friday at Daytona International Speedway. Both NASCAR qualifying sessions were scrapped due to lightning, meaning the starting lineups were set by the metric. The Wawa 250 Xfinity Series race also began under a delay and then faced a red flag during Stage 1.

The Cup Series hosts its regular-season finale at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. It’s the drivers’ last chance to book a playoff ticket.

Since 1999, eight of the 26 summer races at Daytona have been delayed, shortened or postponed due to uncooperative skies.

Here is the National Weather Service forecast for Saturday (and Sunday, just in case).

Daytona weather forecast: Will it rain at NASCAR Cup Series race?

As of 10:30 a.m. Saturday, the NWS forecast looks like this for Daytona Beach:

Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely before 2 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 3 p.m. High near 88. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 75. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. High near 89. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 p.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Low around 75. West southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
