A 32-year-old Bradenton woman has been arrested after the drowning death of her four-year-old daughter at a pool party, according to a Bradenton Police Department press release.
Rosette Pierrecius, who was among those at the party, was arrested on May 10 and charged with child neglect causing great bodily harm, the release said.
The drowning happened the evening of May 9 at the Kendall Ridge Apartment Complex at 302 26th Ave. West. BPD officers were dispatched to the complex at 9:10 p.m., arriving on the scene within three minutes. They started CPR immediately, before EMS took the child to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A large group of people, including the child’s family, was present at the party, according to detectives. The child was swimming when she slipped underwater, and the investigation indicates the child was at the bottom of the pool for several minutes before she was discovered.
“We grieve along with the community on the tragic loss of a child,” Bradenton police said in the release. “Sadly, drowning is the leading cause of death in America among children (ages) one to four, and drownings can happen even with many adults present.
“Even when lifeguards are present, we cannot emphasize strongly enough the importance of a dedicated ‘water watcher’ to help keep our children safe.”
