Pereira was graduate student at Xavier University, school officials said. Employees at the Arise Auto Center, near the location of the shooting, said Pereira was an employee there.

The Friday shooting led to reports of an “active shooter” in the area of Wayne Avenue. Residents were urged to shelter-in-place and multiple schools were placed on lockdown.

Pereira died at the scene of the shooting, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office investigators.

In the wake of the shooting, police were searching for a man that was seen fleeing the area, but as of May 11 no arrests have been reported.

Investigators have not said what led to the shooting.

Anyone with information about Pereira’s killing is being asked to call Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Section at 513‑851‑6000 or Crime Stoppers at 513‑352‑3040.
