The Calusa Country Club at Lakewood Ranch is opening a new 12-hole golf course this winter, adding onto its existing 18-hole championship course.
The “social” golf course will provide a quicker alternative to the 18-hole course that opened in February. The goal of the course is to provide golf accessibility for all ages.
Designed by Gordon Lewis, the 12-hole course will allow play to a par of 48, with over 4,800 yards of play, according to the press release. The course features a mix of par 3s, 4s and 5s, including:
Lewis said the 12-hole course has two of his “favorite holes of all time.”
“Number two is a ‘cape’ hole, which means bite off what you dare on the drive. It’s always been one of my favorite shots,” he wrote in the press release. “And then there is number 8 – it’s a little cutie. With a tee that is 200 feet wide, golfers will have a different angle of attack every day they play.”
The country club also offers a range of amenities, including a nearly one-acre practice putting course, snack bar, a fire pit, seating area, an aqua driving range and a short game practice area. Inside the clubhouse, there is a golf simulator.
