Florida baseball will face in-state rival Miami in the Gainesville Regional winners bracket on Saturday, May 30.
The Gators (40-19) walked off Rider 8-7 after Brendan Lawson hit a game-winning home run. The Hurricanes (39-18) pulled together a 5-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Troy 10-5.
Since Miami’s matchup against Troy did not conclude until 1:53 a.m. on Saturday morning, the next game of the Regional must begin at least 12 hours after the previous contest if it runs past 1 a.m. local time.
That said, Florida and Miami will now play at 8 p.m., while Rider and Troy will play at 3 p.m.
The Gators and Miami met earlier this season, which ended in UF winning a pair of games as the final contest of the series was rained out. In those two games, three different Gators homered in the series as UF won the first game 7-2 and then the second game 8-2 back in February.
Aidan King’s outing against the Hurricanes earlier this season lasted only 2.1 innings as he gave up three unearned runs, two hits, one walk and recorded three strikeouts.
As a pitching staff, Miami entered the regional with a team ERA of 4.88 and a WHIP of 1.45. At the plate, the Hurricanes batted .305 and hit 113 doubles and 81 home runs.
