What is the Golden State Warriors all-time record in Game 7s?

The San Antonio Spurs forced Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder last Thursday, the first such game in the Western Conference Finals since the Golden State Warriors forced the Houston Rockets to seven games. Golden State would go on to win an NBA championship that year (2018), defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in a four-game sweep.

With that victory in mind, what is Golden State’s all-time record in Game 7s?

The Warriors’ first Game 7 in franchise history came all the way back in 1948 when they were located in Philadelphia. In that game they defeated the St. Louis Bombers by 39 points, 85-46. Their next Game 7 was a two-point defeat in 1962 against the Boston Celtics. Then in 1964, the Warriors participated in their only Game 7 while known as the San Francisco Warriors, a 10-point victory over the St. Louis Hawks.

After that, the Golden State Warriors captured their third NBA title against the Chicago Bulls in the 1975 NBA Finals, winning 83-79 in Game 7. Back-to-back Game 7 defeats would follow in 1976 and 1977 before a long drought of Game 7s. Nearly 37 years later in 2014, the Warriors fell to the Los Angeles Clippers in heartbreaking fashion by five points.

Next in 2016, Golden State earned another Game 7 victory, coming back from down 3-1 to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder, a defeat that prompted Kevin Durant to leave the Thunder in favor of the Warriors the next season. Following a Game 7 loss in the 2016 NBA Finals to LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State has won three consecutive Game 7s, including the aforementioned 2018 win versus Houston.

All in all, this puts the Warriors’ all-time record in Game 7 at 7-5.
