The other woman who lost her life in the collision was identified by family as Kathy Greenwood, 85, of Big Bear Lake.

Both were passengers in a Subaru Crosstrek, officials said. Greenwood’s daughter, who was driving the vehicle, was hospitalized in critical condition following the wreck, which took place about 10:20 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Big Bear Boulevard and Cienega Road, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials and loved ones.

The women were reportedly making deliveries for a local Meals on Wheels program when the crash took place.

DUI suspected in crash

The Subaru was headed west along Big Bear Boulevard when a Ford Super Duty traveling south on Cienega Road ran a stop sign and struck the victim’s car on the passenger side, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 52-year-old Matthew James Clark of Oxnard, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was ultimately arrested on suspicion of drunken driving causing injury and death, according to sheriff’s officials and county jail records.

Senft died from her injuries at the scene. Greenwood succumbed to her injuries as a hospital a short time later.

Clark was released from custody pending legal proceedings the day after the collision after posting $250,000 bail.

Outpouring of community support

The Big Bear community rallied in support of the victims in the wake of the tragedy.

An online fundraiser established to help the Greenwood family has garnered more than $35,000 in community donations within three days.

In one day, “Our family was forever changed,” Greenwood’s son, Michael Greenwood, wrote in a memorial accompanying the fundraiser.

“My mother, Kathy Greenwood, was killed by a drunk driver, and my sister, Kelly Satterfield, is now in critical condition,” he said. “The shock and pain of losing my mother so suddenly is overwhelming, and we are doing everything we can to support Kelly as she fights for her recovery.”

The collected funds “will go directly toward covering Kelly’s medical bills, ongoing rehabilitation, and daily care as she begins the long road to healing,” he added. “In addition, we are facing significant legal expenses as we seek justice for my mother and ensure that Kelly receives the support she needs.
