As expected, the UCLA Bruins claimed a No. 1 seed in the Los Angeles Regional for the NCAA tournament. It’s the second time that UCLA baseball has been the tournament’s No. 1 seed, with the 2019 UCLA team also being the No. 1 overall seed.
The Bruins are seeking a second-straight College World Series appearance after the program just clinched their first-ever Big Ten Conference tournament championship, with UCLA getting three walk-off wins to get through the tournament.
Joining UCLA in the Los Angeles Regional is No. 2 seed Virginia Tech, No. 3 seed Cal Poly and No. 4 seed Saint Mary’s. The Bruins will begin their regional action on Friday with a noon start time versus Saint Mary’s.
There aren’t any Big Ten opponents in the Los Angeles Regional with the Bruins and UCLA must be relieved about that, following three nail-biters in the conference tournament, where the Bruins were down to their final out in two different games.
UCLA will be playing on their home field, Jackie Robinson Stadium, throughout the regionals, with the Bruins owning a 27-5 record at home this season. The Bruins have technically been better on the road this season, having gone 6-0 in neutral site games and 18-1 on the road, but UCLA won’t be mad for the chance to play in front of their home crowd for a few more games.
The regional will wrap up either on Sunday or Monday depending on how the action unfolds. UCLA enters the regional having won five games in a row and having an impressive 51 wins on the season, the most in Division I college baseball this season.
