Driver sought after Apple Valley man, 76, killed in hit-and-run

A 76-year-old Apple Valley man was fatally struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene without stopping to help, on Sunday, May 24, authorities said.

Johnny Guerra, 76, died in the 10:20 p.m. collision at Kiowa and Sandia roads, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner officials.

Guerra was walking across Kiowa road when he was hit, sheriff’s officials said in a written statement.

“An unknown vehicle drove north on Kiowa Road and collided with the pedestrian in the northbound lane near Sandia Road,” the statement said.

Guerra died from his injuries at the scene.

No description of the vehicle or the driver was available.

The investigation is being spearheaded by the Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team.
