The USC Trojans brought in a lot of new talent this offseason. They also lost some key, pivotal pieces on their team. It will be up to the young talent to develop and take that next step Some young Trojans will need to overachieve this season. One name to watch will be Jahkeem Stewart.
In a recent article, Kendell Hollowell takes a look at a defensive Trojan that can take his game to another level this season. Here is what he had to say about Jahkeem Stewart:
“Stewart finished second on the team in tackles for loss, which earned him Freshman All-American honors last season. And he did so, playing the entire season with a stress fracture in his foot and graduating high school a year early.
The 6-6, 295-pound Stewart has an elite blend of size, power and quickness. With a full season of experience, after not playing in a live game for two years, and at full strength, the expectation is that Stewart begins to blossom into a player who looks like a sure-fire first-round draft pick in a couple of years when he’s eligible.
Stewart trained with coach Brandon Jordan, a pass rush specialist, ahead of return to USC for summer workouts. His progression in year two will be a big determining factor in what kind of defensive front the Trojans will have in the fall.”
Football is won in the trenches, and they couldn’t be any truer for the Big Ten conference. The Trojans needed to improve on both sides of the trenches this offseason. Jahkeem Stewart taking the next step would be exactly what this defensive line needs. He will be put in a great position for that with the new defensive coordinator, Gary Patterson.
