California-based grocer Trader Joe’s is releasing a new micro tote, and with lines wrapped around the block in some California cities for the previous drop, the company is taking a step back.
Employees at Trader Joe’s confirmed to The Reno Gazette Journal, an affiliate paper in the USA TODAY network, that the specialty grocer will be launching a new pastel color for the canvas micro tote bag.
The biggest concern surrounding the release will be when it will finally drop. The micro tote was first hinted at in early 2026, and since then, there have been no updates, despite several other tote versions being released.

Trader Joe’s pastel micro tote bag release
Measuring just 4.5 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall, the micro tote is the smallest in Trader Joe’s popular line of canvas bags. The Trader Joe’s canvas micro tote bag was first released in November last year in three colors — blue, green and red — at $2.99 per bag. The micro totes also come with a reusable grocery store bag in matching colors inside.
While several versions of the mini tote have been released and sold out, the micro tote has yet to reach the store’s market despite its announcement earlier this year.
When will the next drop of Trader Joe’s micro tote bags be?
No official date has been announced for the release of the new line, but Trader Joe’s employees have confirmed the release was delayed as the company considers the best way to handle future bag launches, given the craze surrounding them.
Trader Joe’s continues to add to viral tote bag lineup
From “Trick-or-Treat Mini Canvas Totes” to “Micro Totes” to the latest “Striped Mini Canvas Totes,” the upcoming “Summer Fun Mini Insulated Totes” are the latest entry in Trader Joe’s ever‑expanding lineup of collectible bags.
A lavender variant of the $8.99 reusable insulated bag has recently been added to stores. The chain reintroduced the pastel mini canvas tote bags in March and also introduced a new, larger canvas bag.
The compact totes have gained a cult-like following among the store’s customers and fashion enthusiasts. They first went viral in March 2024, and their popularity on social media has made them harder to acquire.
Trader Joe’s totes have gained international popularity, with listings on platforms such as Coupang, Depop, Karrot, eBay, and Mercari. Since Trader Joe’s has no stores abroad, U.S. shoppers often list resale prices that are significantly higher than in-store prices, sometimes surpassing $1,000.
Despite Black Friday–style lines, limited quantities, and resellers charging exorbitant prices, the tote has become a must‑have staple, with fans lining up for each new release.

Trader Joe’s is a specialty grocer that originated in the Golden State, with its headquarters now located in Monrovia.
With its California roots, the chain has locations in 154 California cities, according to its website. While the site does not have an exact number of locations, some cities have multiple stores.
