Carne Latin steakhouse to open at The Collection in Oxnard

The new Latin steakhouse and grill Carne will have a grand opening at The Collection in Oxnard this weekend.

The location was a “natural fit” for the restaurant, said Freddy Braidi, the CEO and president of Los Angeles-based Boulevard Hospitality Group. The group is the restaurant owner with Yamashiro Miami Hospitality Group.

“For us, we felt Oxnard is a great city,” Braidi said. “I think there’s a good mix of residents and visitors and community, so bringing this Latin steakhouse, fire grill experience to this area, I think it’s just going to add a really good element.”

Braidi is also a co-owner with Simi Valley’s Cork & Batter Texas-style barbecue restaurant.

Where is the restaurant located?

The restaurant is located at 511 Town Center Drive, Suite 3015 in the popular shopping mall, formerly the home of King and Queen Cantina that permanently closed.

The restaurant officially opens on Friday, with television personality and actor Mario Lopez hosting, but the reservations are filled.

The hours are 4 to 10 p.m. weekdays and 4 p.m. to midnight on weekends for the first couple of weeks, said spokesperson Anna Karkalik in an email. Lunch service will open a few weeks later and brunch will follow in the future.

Chef Carlos Couts, who lives in Oxnard, will lead the location, he said. There are plans for the restaurant to open in other locations, including Miami, Braidi said.

Jennifer Duarte, director of property management for CenterCal Properties LLC, whose portfolio includes The Collection at Riverpark, said in an email that the dining experience is built on the idea that a meal should bring people together.

What’s on the menu?

A taco trio with handmade tortillas includes a carne asada taco with wood-grilled skirt steak, grilled onion, cilantro, salsa roja and lime for $20, a pulpo taco with charcoal-grilled Spanish octopus, avocado, salsa verde and crispy herbs for $23 and a lobster taco with beer-battered Maine lobster, mango salsa, cilantro and lime for $39.

The live-fire grill portion of the menu is sliced for sharing with rice and beans and includes 45-day wet-aged upper choice steaks including a 10-ounce Churrasco, or skirt steak, for $32, a Costilla, or Wagyu Denver, a 10-ounce marbled chuck cut that is charcoal finished for $38 or a Lomo, or filet mignon, an 8-ounce center-cut tenderloin for $48. Platters are also sliced for sharing with rice and beans and include a whole fried rockfish, coconut sweet chili and lime for $58, a filet mignon and lobster tail with garlic butter for $95 and a yellowfin tuna, prawns and lobster tail for $140.

Other options include the $15 Sweet Heat with blanco tequila, lime, mango, honey and chili and the $15 Carne Pisco Sour with pisco, lime, grapefruit, maraschino and egg white.
