A 13-year-old riding an electric bicycle was killed April 25 after being struck by a train in Simi Valley.
The Simi Valley Police Department said the teen was traveling southbound on a sidewalk at Sequoia and Los Angeles avenues around 6:30 p.m. and allegedly failed to stop in time for the passing Amtrak train. The child died at the scene from his injuries despite efforts to treat him, police said in a news release.
Police advised riders to stay alert while on bicycles and follow the rules of the road.
In July, a woman lost her arm when her e-bike got stuck on railroad tracks at a shortcut in midtown Ventura. Doctors were able to reattach her arm.
