Sheriff identifies man shot and killed in Coachella

The man who was shot and killed over the weekend in Coachella has been identified as 51-year-old Enrique Arrieta.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said Monday that Arrieta, a Coachella resident, was found after deputies responded at 11:37 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, to the intersection of Calle Limon and Genoa Street for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.

Deputies found Arrieta lying on the ground with a possible gunshot wound. Despite “life-saving measures taken by the deputies,” he was pronounced dead at the scene, Sgt. Lance Stoyer said in a press release.

No arrests had been made as of Monday morning, and homicide investigators were continuing to try to identify a suspect.
