As inflation-conscious shoppers continue to look for ways to stretch their household budgets, Sam’s Club is expanding its footprint across the country — including two new locations in California.
The Walmart-owned warehouse retailer confirmed it is opening four new stores in 2026, with locations planned for Tennessee, Texas and California.
For California shoppers, the biggest news is that two of the four confirmed openings are slated for the Golden State. There are currently 30 Sam’s Club locations in California.
Two new Sam’s Club locations are coming to California
Sam’s Club plans to open new stores in Lathrop and Visalia, giving residents in the Central Valley additional shopping options and potentially reducing travel times for members who currently drive longer distances to reach a warehouse club.
The California locations are:
The openings are part of a broader national expansion effort that will add new warehouse stores in growing population centers across the country.
The Visalia location could be particularly significant for shoppers in Tulare County and surrounding communities, where warehouse retail options are more limited than in larger metropolitan areas.
Why Sam’s Club is expanding its store footprint
Sam’s Club says it will open four locations during calendar year 2026 and seven locations during its fiscal year, which runs from Feb. 1, 2026, through Jan. 31, 2027.
The expansion reflects continued demand for bulk purchasing and membership warehouse shopping as consumers seek value on groceries, household goods, electronics and other everyday purchases.
In addition to the California stores, Sam’s Club has confirmed locations in:
A previously announced Texas project in the Houston area generated enthusiasm from local officials, who touted the economic development and retail opportunities the store could bring.
When will the new stores open?
Sam’s Club confirmed that its Lebanon, Tennessee, store will open on July 30, marking one of the retailer’s first new openings of 2026.
The company has not yet announced opening dates for the California or Texas locations. Additional details, including hiring timelines and grand opening events, are expected closer to each store’s debut.
For Californians eager to see whether their region could be next, the company’s expansion plans suggest Sam’s Club remains focused on adding stores in fast-growing communities where demand for warehouse shopping continues to rise.
