A multi-week construction project along Highway 111 in Palm Desert is expected to bring lane closures and traffic delays to a stretch of the busy roadway.
The road work, part of a bridge maintenance project, is scheduled to begin Friday, Sept. 26, near the intersection of Park View and Highway 111, and continue for roughly three weeks. Daytime work will include milling, paving and replacing some materials, while night work is necessary to reach temperature requirements for bridge overlays.

Vehicle traffic will remain open in both directions, but traffic will occasionally be reduced to a single lane in each direction, according to the city of Palm Desert.
“Drivers should expect delays and are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use alternate routes if available,” Palm Desert Public Affairs Manager Thomas Soule said in a prepared statement. “The City of Palm Desert appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as we complete this important infrastructure maintenance.”
The road work also comes as the city of Rancho Mirage nears completion of a street slurry sealing project nearby along Highway 111. That project, which has been ongoing this month, is slated to be done on Friday, Sept. 26, barring inclement weather.
A few miles to the east, the city of La Quinta is also almost finished with its own pavement rehabilitation project on Highway 111 between Washington Street and Jefferson Street. That $7 million project is expected to be done by October.
