Oxnard Police Cmdr. Miguel Serrato said officers were called shortly before 2:20 p.m. to the park, which lies between Gary Drive and Jason Place.

The incident appeared to stem from a fight between two men near the basketball courts, and one of the men allegedly shot at the other, the police commander said. Officers seized two guns while investigating the incident, he said.

Fire Chief Alex Hamilton said fire crews assisted with a person who suffered a gunshot wound. One man was taken to Ventura County Medical Center. The second man suffered relatively minor injuries and was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard.

Serrato said the 24-year-old man who was shot was described as being in stable condition. A 28-year-old man was taken into custody, according to a news release later in the afternoon.

Oxnard police said the two men had been arguing, and witnesses told police the 28-year-old took out a gun and fired multiple rounds at the victim.

The 28-year-old allegedly discarded the gun, and officers found multiple guns after a search of the scene.
