The Los Angeles Rams have a lot of important players this year. Matthew Stafford is obviously top of the list, but the players behind him will play invaluable roles on either side of the ball too.
CBS Sports’ Jared Dubin went through every NFL team to find the most important non-quarterback player, though. Someone integral to the team’s success or failure, but who won’t touch the ball half the time, like the quarterback.
A few players could have been the Rams’ pick, but Dubin chose one of the most recent acquisitions for L.A.: Veteran receiver Davante Adams.
There’s a reason we identified Adams to the Rams as a potential fit before free agency even opened. We know what it looks like when Matthew Stafford has two elite wide receivers to work with, and despite his advancing age, Adams remains elite. He also brings more inside-outside versatility to the offense than did his predecessor, Cooper Kupp.
He somehow gives L.A.’s offense an even higher ceiling if he can maintain a similar level of play to where he has been for the last few years.
Now, Puka Nacua, an offensive lineman, or even edge rusher Jared Verse might matter more. But the idea here is that the Rams targeted Adams as the suitable replacement for Cooper Kupp, meaning they valued his skillset above all over potential newcomers to the offense.
And it makes sense given what Adams brings to the offense. He can play all over the field, has veteran experience and is just overall one of the best receivers in the league right now.
