Man fatally shot by deputies amid alleged vehicular attack in Oak Hills

Deputies fatally shot a man as they say he drove a vehicle toward them and a woman during an encounter in Oak Hills on Saturday.

Anthony Gerard Tevis, 67, of Oak Hills died following the deputy-involved shooting, which took place about 6:30 p.m. in the 9000 block of Whitehaven Road in Oak Hills, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials.

The deputies had responded to a report of an assault in which a man struck a weapon with a rake and also had a firearm at the home, the agency said in a written statement.

As deputies began their investigation, Tevis ” drove a vehicle at a high rate of speed toward the victims,” the statement said. “A lethal force encounter occurred and Tevis was struck by gunfire.”

The intended targets of the vehicular assault were listed by sheriff’s officials as the woman and three deputies.

Once the vehicle came to a halt, first responders administered aid to the wounded suspect and took him to a hospital, where he soon succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

No further details were released.
