Two westbound lanes blocked after vehicle fire on the I-10 in Rancho Mirage

A FedEx box truck caught fire Wednesday, July 8, on the westbound Interstate 10 near Bob Hope Drive, slowing traffic as two right lanes were blocked.

The fire was first reported around 6:06 p.m. just west of Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage, according to California Highway Patrol’s incident log. Drivers on the I-10 could see black smoke rising near the Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage.

The two right lanes on the westbound I-10 at Bob Hope Drive were blocked around 6:19 p.m., with stop-and-go traffic backed up to Monterey Avenue/Exit 131, according to SigAlert. Delays were estimated at up to five minutes.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.
