A 28-year-old Oxnard man has been arrested July 28 for an incident involving an Oxnard Police Department officer shooting, according to authorities.
The man’s offenses are tied to a June incident at the 3400 block of Neap Place and includes felony assault and battery upon a peace officer and evading an officer, according to a department news release.
Around 4:50 a.m. on June 17, an Oxnard police officer attempted to stop the Oxnard man who was driving near Magnolia Avenue and C Street after recognizing the vehicle as one involved in an incident earlier in the month, according to a previous department news release.
The 28-year-old led police on a pursuit after failing to stop, ultimately ending when the man crashed his car into an officer’s patrol vehicle on Neap Place, police said.
The department released body-worn camera of this incident earlier this month on YouTube. The footage shows three officers, including Officer David Raney, who fired at the 28-year-old during the incident.
The video shows that after the vehicle crash a foot pursuit followed. An off-camera struggle between the 28-year-old and Raney resulted in the shooting, the police said.
Raney was placed on administrative leave following the shooting, the police said. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office and Oxnard police detectives are investigating the incident and Raney’s actions, officials said.
The 28-year-old is being held at Ventura County jail with a bail set at $1 million and a Ventura County Superior Court hearing scheduled on Aug. 11, according to jail records.
