Rumors are circulating online that Golden Gate Chinese Restaurant is closing after more than 30 years of service in Victorville.
According to co-owner Fiona Xu, the information spread via a Victor Valley news Facebook post that has since been deleted, though not before worrying customers about what might happen to their favorite Chinese restaurant.
Owner Harry Chen told the Daily Press that the closure couldn’t be farther from the truth.
“We have no plans to close anytime soon,” said Chen, who acquired ownership with Xu in 2018. “We are still in good business; why would we close?”
He admitted that business has not been as strong as it was before the pandemic, but that it’s good enough to remain operational for the foreseeable future.
“As a long-standing, family-run business, we take our reputation very seriously,” Xu commented online. “We sincerely thank our loyal customers and community for your continued trust and support over the past three decades. We look forward to continuing to serve you.”
Many High Desert residents have been eating the Kung Pao chicken and chow mien at Golden Gate Restaurant for generations.
One such customer is Hesperia resident Lucy Gallegos. She says her parents used to take her family to Golden Gate when she was in high school, and now she takes her own family. She “absolutely loves” the food.
Crestline resident Ashley Franko says she can’t believe it’s already been 30 years since she first ate at Golden Gate, and Timothy Lajoie says the restaurant has been a family favorite since the early 2000s. They both agree that Golden Gate is one of the best in the desert.
