When the Los Angeles Rams made the move to acquire star defender Myles Garrett, they had to make the tough decision to part ways with Pro Bowler Jared Verse. Verse ingratiated himself with the city of Los Angeles, being the vocal leader of the new “Fearsome Foursome.”
The original Fearsome Foursome consisted of the legendary defensive line of Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy, and Rosey Grier. Verse, along with Braden Fiske, Kobie Turner, and Byron Young, brought forth a new era, with Verse being the face of the campaign, even meeting Grier, the group’s only living member.
With Verse’s departure, Garrett will be asked to become the new force behind the team’s production along the line of scrimmage. During Garrett’s first press conference, he shared his ties to the city of Los Angeles. Garrett stated his dad is from the city, as is his domestic partner, US Olympian Chloe Kim. He spoke about the original Fearsome Foursome, stating that he watched their film growing up.
“I definitely recall watching film of the Fearsome Foursome, Deacon Jones,” stated Garrett. “Actually grew up watching that in high school. Once I started really watching and playing the game, and so definitely very aware. As far as my ties to the city. My dad’s from LA, so that’s an obvious tie, Chloe, her being from here, and us being the same city, is obviously something that I love and appreciate, and everything else, it’s really just looking forward to the future, looking to plant my own roots and see what comes of this.”
Garrett looks to be the next defensive great to represent the franchise.
