Most of Highway 74 southwest of Palm Desert was shut down by the California Highway Patrol Tuesday afternoon following a shooting that left a person in critical condition.
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Robert Martinez said deputies were dispatched to the area of Highway 74 and Ribbonwood Drive at around 2:20 p.m. following a shooting. The person who was shot was airlifted to a hospital. Another person was detained at the scene, and Martinez described the investigation as “active and ongoing.”
CHP posted on social media that the closure extends from the bottom of the hill in Palm Desert to State Route 371 near Anza, a stretch of about 20 miles.
