The Los Angeles Rams have a lot of first-round picks on their their team.
The team just traded for the No. 1 overall pick in 2017, Myles Garrett, in a blockbuster move with the Cleveland Browns. Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford is also a former first-round pick after going No. 1 to the Detroit Lions in 2009. Cornerback Emmanuel Forbes Jr., originally drafted by the Washington Commanders in 2023, is also a former first-rounder.
And, of course, quarterback Ty Simpson was a first-round pick in 2026.
However, Simpson is unique in that he is now the only first-round player on the roster who was originally drafted by L.A. (h/t Doug Farrar). He was originally one of only two first-round picks by the Rams on the roster alongside Jared Verse, but the No. 19 pick in 2024 was sent to Cleveland in the Garrett deal.
The Rams have notoriously operated without first-round picks for years. They sent several to the Jacksonville Jaguars for Jalen Ramsey in 2019 before sending more to Detroit in the 2021 trade for Stafford. Verse was the Rams’ first first-round pick since Jared Goff in 2016, who was also dealt in the Stafford deal.
L.A. had opportunities to add more first-round picks over the past two drafts, too, but opted to trade those picks away. The Rams sent the No. 26 in 2025 to the Atlanta Falcons for the pick that turned into Simpson and also traded the No. 29 pick in 2026 to the Kansas City Chiefs in a package for for cornerback Trent McDuffie.
The Rams won’t have another chance to add their own first-round player until 2028 after they dealt their 2027 first to the Browns in the Garrett deal as well. There’s always a chance Les Snead and Sean McVay trade back into the first round next year, but that doesn’t seem to be their speed during their almost-decade together at the helm of the team.
For now, they’ll operate with Simpson as their lone first-rounder.
