Shasta County elections updates: Live vote results on June 2

Voters in Shasta County, like the rest of California, went to the polls on Tuesday, June 2 to cast ballots for who will advance to the November general election in the governor’s race and several other key races at the local to federal level. Polls close at 8 p.m.

In addition to the governor’s race and other statewide offices, Shasta is voting on two county supervisor races. District 1 incumbent Kevin Crye is facing a rematch from Erin Resner for a seat that mostly represents Redding. Making that a three-way contest is Richard Gallardo.

In the District 5 race in southwest Shasta, incumbent Chris Kelstrom faces challengers Mike Gallagher and Gary Oxley.

Voters also are deciding on the high-stakes county clerk and registrar of voters contest between incumbent Clint Curtis and Joanna Francescut, and the controversial Measure B also will be decided. The ballot measure, which runs counter to state and federal laws, would require in-person voting with limited exceptions, mandate that ballots be counted by hand and make voters produce a government-issued photo ID at the polls.

Voters are also casting ballots under newly redrawn political boundaries after Proposition 50 took effect, reshaping district lines across California and potentially influencing turnout, representation and the outcome of key races statewide. In the North State, the two races being watched are Congressional District 1, formerly held by Doug LaMalfa who died on Jan. 6, and Congressional District 2, which will cover Shasta, Siskiyou and Modoc counties.
