San Joaquin County residents will cast their vote for California’s State Assembly Districts 9 and 13 in the primary election on Tuesday.
Assemblymember Rhodesia Ransom, District 13 incumbent, is the only democratic candidate running for the seat out of four candidates. Ransom is running against Tom Patti, a Republican candidate and a former San Joaquin County supervisor.
Democratic candidate Matthew Adams is running against Republican incumbent Heath Flora for Assembly District 9.
California State Assembly District 9
Main issues in the District 9 are education, homelessness and healthcare.
Flora has been in his position since Dec. 5, 2022. His term will end on Dec. 7, 2026, according to Ballotpedia. He is endorsed by the California Federation of Labor Unions, AFL-CIO, Operating Engineers Local 3, California Professional Firefighters’ Voting Group, and others.
Adams is endorsed by the California Democratic Party, Democratic Party of California, Equality California, and others.
California State Assembly District 13
Ransom and Eliza Dy participated in the May 4 forum at Victory In Praise Church ahead of Tuesday’s primary election. They presented their views on education, housing and economic equity.
Ransom has been in her position since Dec. 2, 2024. Her term ends on Dec. 7, 2026. She is endorsed by the Democratic Party of California, California Nurses Association and SEIU California’s Voting Group, among others.
Tom Patti is endorsed by the Republican Party of California, San Joaquin County, Calif., Republican Party, Reform California and others.
Voting in San Joaquin County
Polls will open in San Joaquin County for the primary election on Tuesday, June 2, with 130 polling locations, the registrar of voters’ office, and drop box locations. Polls will remain open until 8 p.m. on Election night.
On Tuesday, there will be 27 secure ballot drop box locations in the county where ballots can be dropped off. For hours and locations, visit the registrar of voters’ website.
A drive-through drop-off location will also be available for voters starting at 7 a.m. on Tuesday outside the San Joaquin County Administration Building at 44 N. San Joaquin St. in Stockton. This will close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
