How much of an impact will new offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri have on the Bruins?

How much of Indiana’s offensive success last year was because of offensive coordinator Tino Sunseri? That’s what the Hoosiers, UCLA Bruins, and the rest of the Big Ten Conference are waiting to find out this college football season.

Sunseri helped Indiana run the best offense in the Big Ten and then headed to Los Angeles to join head coach DeShaun Foster and the Bruins. After the addition of Sunseri, UCLA hauled in another big fish, bringing in Nico Iamaleava after the quarterback left Tennessee due to an NIL dispute.

Iamaleava will elevate UCLA’s quarterback room, but the Bruins’ offensive issues didn’t end there, fielding the worst rushing attack in the Big Ten.

“We’re going to be able to make sure that we’re going to be able to stretch the field vertically and horizontally. To be able to make sure the defense blade guards every single blade of grass,” Sunseri said.

Even though he’s known for his work quarterbacks, what really drew Foster to Sunseri was his approach to the running game, noting he “checked all the boxes” for what he wanted in a balanced offense. It was tough for Foster, a former NFL running back, to have see his running game in 2024 average 86.6 yards per game, third-worst in FBS.” USA TODAY’s Jordan Mendoza wrote.

The Bruins will see just how much of an effect both Sunseri and Iamaleava will have on the UCLA offense as they continue to attempt to climb the ranks of the Big Ten.
