New details have been released for the film “Youth Juice,” which was recently shooting all across Palm Springs.
Live Nation Studios announced in a press release that “Youth Juice” is a horror-comedy starring Gideon Adlon (“Euphoria,” “Blockers”), Luna Blaise (“Jurassic World,” “Manifest”), Simon Rex (“Red Rocket”) and Jay Hernandez (“Magnum P.I.”). The film is directed and produced by Veronica Rodriguez, who is also directing the upcoming Disney film “Camp Rock 3,” and written and produced by Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan, writers of Netflix’s Academy Award-winning film “KPop Demon Hunters.”
In “Youth Juice,” best friends Luna (Blaise) and Beni (Adlon) are terrified of growing old and travel to Palm Springs to reclaim their vitality, according to a press release. The film is “a creepy satire about aging and how far people will go to stop getting older.”
“I’m making something sexy, funny, and scary,” Rodriguez said in a statement. “A film that’s both entertaining and unsettling, about the strange things people do to feel young.”
The writers also said in a statement that they wrote the film during the COVID-19 pandemic “when we were both approaching 25, wasting away our youth indoors, going from miss to ma’am. At the time, it felt like a horror movie.”
A release date was not listed on the press release, nor whether the film would be in theaters or on streaming.
On Wednesday, May 27, about 20 production crew members were spotted filming for the film, with shooting concentrated around the area of West Chino Drive, Belardo Road, West Alejo Road and North Palm Canyon Drive. Filming permits obtained by The Desert Sun show that the crew was in Palm Springs from May 26 to June 12, and additional shooting locations included along Garnet Avenue, North Kitty Hawk Drive, a property located at 1050 E. Racquet Club Road, Palm Canyon Theatre/Francis Stevens Park, and the intersection of North Via Monte Vista and West Mountain View Place.
When The Desert Sun spotted the production crew in town, actresses Blaise and Adlon were driving a yellow convertible, which was being pulled forward by a truck. A Palm Springs Police escort was also driving ahead of the two vehicles along West Chino Drive.
