Smash Bros' burgers has grand opening Friday in Shasta Lake

For nearly 10 years, Jonah Mills and his business partners have wanted to open a place for hamburgers and brewery.

They’ve realized one half of that vision with Smash Bros, a smash burger restaurant in Cascade Village in Shasta Lake that has its grand opening on Friday, July 10.

Smash Bros doesn’t have a brewery, but when you’re steps away from the tap room of one of the most popular breweries in far Northern California, it’s the next best thing.

“It kind of felt like the perfect fit,” Mills said.

Fall River Brewing Co.’s tap room opened in Cascade Village last December, the first business to open in the mixed-use development. Built by K2 Development, the project has given the city’s main corridor, Shasta Dam Boulevard, a major facelift.

In June, K2 announced that Fall River and Mills and partners’, Tarsus Foods, would be coming to the Village.

“It’s an exciting time in Shasta Lake as we welcome Fall River Brewing and Tarsus Foods to our community. Their addition, along with the planned outdoor gathering and dining space, reflects the overall vision of the Cascade Village project,” Shasta Lake City Manager Jessaca Lugo said in a news release at the time.

Why is the name Smash Bros?

“The four partners in our company, we all have been working together for 10-plus years. It was a brand-new concept for us, something we all loved and we each did a little part. So, it felt a little collaborative,” he said of the name.

Smash Bros will serve single, double and triple burgers.

“We also have some fried chicken tenders and loaded fries and milk shakes, and that is the heart of it,” Mills said.

The restaurant will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Tarsus Foods also owns From the Hearth, Chicken Shack, Addendum and Bread Butcher’s Cold Brew in Redding Public Market.

From the Hearth had a drive-thru location on Shasta Dam Boulevard, but it closed and was demolished to make room for Cascade Village.

“We got our burger place, we got our brewery next door, and we are back in the place where we love to do business. It really feels like we’ve come full circle,” Mills said.
