During the WNBA’s All Star Weekend, former UCLA Bruin national champion Gabriela Jaquez was asked on the orange carpet, if she could play 1-on-1 with any historical figure ever, who would she choose?
Jaquez’s answer caught everyone off guard when she responded with Jesus. The central Christianity figure never had any reported experience playing basketball but Jaquez wants the smoke regardless. Jaquez was cracking up with laughter before even giving her answer.
“I’m dying at my answer right now. Jesus.” Jaquez said, before fully breaking down with laughter.
Even though Jaquez has the basketball experience on Jesus, she still believed that he would prevail and win the matchup 11-10. Jaquez would be well-equipped to match up against Jesus, having played against her brother, Jaime Jaquez Jr. of the Milwaukee Bucks throughout her life.
History predicts that Jesus was roughly 5’5”, giving the 6’0” Jaquez a height advantage in the matchup. While we’ll likely never get to see the game take place, it’s hard not to roll with Jaquez on this one.
While Jaquez flew under the radar throughout her UCLA career, she took the center stage in the national title game against South Carolina. Jaquez scored a game-high 21 points against South Carolina to cap off her Bruin career.
The Chicago Sky took Jaquez with the fifth overall pick in the WNBA Draft. Jaquez has enjoyed a productive rookie season, putting up 8.3 points, 3.7 rebounds while adding 0.9 steals per game for the 9-18 Sky.
