Looks like temperatures are expected to rise beyond the 100-degree mark in the High Desert and parts of San Bernardino County this week.
The National Weather Service has issued a six-day Heat Advisory, beginning Wednesday, July 22, for portions of San Bernardino County.
Places like Apple Valley, Adelanto, Hesperia, Lucerne Valley and Victorville should see high temperatures from 100 to 103. Meanwhile, Barstow’s highs will range from 103 to 108.
Dangerously hot conditions are possible in the Joshua Tree National Park, with highs reaching 105 to 116 degrees.
Fontana, Rancho Cucamonga, San Bernardino and Ontario are expected to see high temperatures of 100 to 107 degrees.
Highs in the San Bernardino County mountains are expected in the mid-80s to 90s below 6,000 feet.
High daytime temperatures are expected to limit overnight relief from the heat, NWS officials stated.
Mojave Desert Air quality
The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District advised poor air quality beginning Monday, July 20, for the Phelan area due to excessive heat.
Excessive daytime high temperatures contribute to increased concentrations of ground-level ozone and may worsen ambient (breathable) air quality to the “red − unhealthy for everyone, especially for members of sensitive groups,” the agency stated.
The advisory may be extended consistent with NWS and air quality forecasts, the agency added.
Residents are encouraged to check the Air Quality Index before heading outside.

To reduce health risks during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
